About me.

First of all, Congratulations on your pregnancy!

My name is Amber. I live in Gardnerville, Nevada.

I have been married to my husband, Ken, for 17 years. We have 6 beautiful kids in our arms still, a daughter who passed away at 5 weeks in 2008, and 3 miscarried babies.

I am a labor, postpartum and bereavement doula, a photographer, as well as a domestic and sexual abuse counselor and advocate through Live Violence Free. I was credentialed through StillBirthDay University with extensive training in pregnancy, the labor and birth process, childbirth education, comfort measures, lactation support and education, bereavement support for fatal fetal diagnosis, stillbirth, and infant death, religious, spiritual and cultural beliefs, customs and rituals related to birth and death, comfort and remembrance practices for bereavement and infant loss.

I attend both hospital and home births, normal and high risk deliveries. My goal is to support you in whatever ways you need, educate and provide resources, support your informed choices, help with comfort measures throughout labor and birth, and get you holding your precious baby safely. It is not my job to tell you how to deliver, what pain management options to choose, or what procedures to request or allow,  but will provide as much information as I can so you know that you have made the best informed choice that you can and will be your advocate for those informed choices. I will, however, not interfere with the doctors or midwives, nurses, or other medical staff when interventions are necessary for your safety or the safety of your baby, or take over the roll of your husband/partner, but will help and support you and your birth team to the best of my ability to acheive your birth goals. I have experience with mothers who have endured sexual abuse, PTSD, Postpartum depression/anxiety. I have experience with subsequent pregnancies after a previous loss and know first hand the anxiety and fear that can arise with these births.

I am available for maternity, birth, infant and family photography.

For families who are facing a terminal illness in any immediate family, or have gotten a fatal fetal diagnosis or a fetal demise in the postnatal period, I offer a grievance photo session free of charge. Please contact me for details. No doula contracts required for this service.

For clients who have a contract, they may choose a maternity, birth or newborn/family session which is included with their doula packages.

I am available in the Carson Valley, Carson City, Lake Tahoe, and Reno areas.

Please contact for more information at NVDoula@aol.com, or by phone 775-443-0917

What is a doula?

dou·la

noun
noun: doula; plural noun: doulas
  1. a woman who is trained to assist another woman during childbirth and who may provide support to the family after the baby is born.

A doula, also known as a birth companion and post-birth supporter, is a person, usually a woman, who assists another woman before, during, and/or after childbirth, as well as her spouse and/or family, by providing physical assistance and emotional support. The provision of continuous support during labor is associated with improved maternal and fetal health and a variety of other benefits, including lower risk of induction and interventions and less need for pain relief. These benefits are particularly significant when continuous support is provided by someone who is not there as family/friend or as medical staff (i.e. a doula). Additionally, a doula is sometimes hired to work with families beyond the postpartum stages, providing continued physical and emotional support, for as long as needed (sometimes, this support can be ongoing for several years).

A bereavement doula typically offers all the mentioned services, but is also trained in bereavement, and is available for parents experiencing the death of an infant child at any stage and will advocate for your wishes regarding your baby after it has passed, help with bonding, help process your experience.
